ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE: English Education

Our Principle: 'Learning and Using'

GENERAL
The English language education program is designed to support students at every level in a complementary manner.
  • Within the scope of the activities carried out for additional language learning, our students can participate in different projects and improve their critical thinking, analytical skills, research abilities, teamwork, and written-oral communication skills.

  • A student taking English lessons should enjoy learning the subject, see the connection of every work they do with real life, and make English a natural part of their daily life by "personalizing" it, with the ultimate goal of being able to communicate domestically and abroad in daily life.

To achieve this, the education system and curriculum involve intensive interactive work to increase exposure to the language in all areas.

OUR GOALS
Students who complete the high school additional language program will:
  • Enjoy reading a text written in English and be able to make interpretations with their deductions,

  • Use technology and enhance their creativity in English,

  • Analyze and interpret texts in various forms such as letters, emails, stories, poems, paragraphs, and articles, and write similar ones.

  • Gain the ability to analyze different media messages in English (such as films, posters, brochures, blogs, news, etc.),

  • Get to know different cultures and lives, and grow up as global citizens who respect them,

  • Actively participate in Model United Nations (MUN) simulations and Debate Clubs,

  • Participate in composition writing and Oxford Big Read Book reading competitions like Cassini (NASA),

  • Learn English at an international level and succeed in international English exams,

  • Become proficient in the English language at an academic level,

  • At the end of our high school program, we aim for students to achieve English speaking, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and written expression skills at the CEFR-B2+ level, in line with the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for Foreign Language Proficiency Standards.

ERASMUS +
In line with our additional language vision, we have been continuing our contact with sister schools in different countries and providing our high school students with the opportunity to use English/German in real environments during their overseas experiences since 2015 in the Erasmus+ projects.

CAMBRIDGE AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL EXAMS
Our students have been taking Cambridge FCE, TOEFL, and IELTS exams. The success rates of our students preparing for these exams throughout the year are very high.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
The language's parts of the model of sustaining the language in class, school, and home environments are implemented with curricula that overlap with project and activities, such as doing, presenting, and experiencing learning methods, Project-Based Learning, Task-Based Learning, creative drama, family cooperation, and interdisciplinary approach (Interdisciplinary Approach and CLIL).

Teaching methods used, including the "Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)" approach, focus on developing the functional functions of language, such as agreeing/disagreeing, asking questions, complaining, apologizing, critical thinking, problem-solving, making offers, socializing, describing people, places, and things, giving/taking advice, expressing opinions, talking about personal characteristics.

Teaching methods vary based on variables such as expectations, available resources, students' age and language levels, and lesson objectives.
